Larian Studios Reveal a New Divinity, Calling it Their Largest RPG to Date

The speculation surrounding the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, especially after host Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The mystery is finally answered. Larian Studios is creating a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer that included memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.

Not the Expected Sequel

For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio clarified that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This distinction hints that the team is likely crafting a real-time experience as opposed to another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it pioneered the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—elements that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities you can achieve if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously flexible, letting players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be completed in a variety of manners, sometimes in lateral fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you heeded something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

The Journey Continues

It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can anticipate a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
